Pre-face
A Dutch health insurance company asked to propose a solution to their current process of developing internal and external software. This company wants to facilitate web and windows applications to agent and direct consumers. The challenge they were facing was their old method of doing projects and using out dated development technology. Besides this they use a backend system for their critical data that runs for over 30 years. They have technology implemented to expose this backend to the company front office applications. Because so many business logic has been encapsulated within the 30 year old backend, it is a hell of a job to extract all that logic and create a new foundation for it. One of the main goals is to create a software factory that is able to work with the existing backend system.
The receipe
Before you can walk the path a lot of dicussion will be going on. Even if everyone has approved the way to go, after a wile perception about the path is going to change. Smart adepts several techniques to face those changes and keep the path flexible and dynamic.
